Ankh Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2025-09-17

Privacy Principles

The answers and data you may submit to Ankh are potentially very personal. Here are the principles that this privacy policy is based on:

  • Your answers remain on your device. What you answer, write, record, upload, or store in the Ankh app, is not transmitted and cannot be accessed by Ankh Inc.

  • No Ankh cloud. There is no Ankh cloud service where your data could be uploaded. Instead, you may manage your data by using the “export” feature. Note: your device may have an independent cloud backup service.

  • We keep telemetry minimal. Telemetry (analytics) data helps us optimize ads and improve the app. The Ankh project cannot succeed without this telemetry. See the “App Usage Event Specifics” to assess how we’ve minimized the telemetry data we transmit.

  • No hidden agenda. We can’t access your data, and thus can’t “sell” your data. Telemetry SDKs use standard pseudonymous identifiers.

  • The downsides of telemetry. The telemetry data is processed via third-party providers (like Google and Meta). In today’s online ads and analytics ecosystem, such data may be aggregated or shared further by these third-party providers, according to their policies. This is an unavoidable privacy cost of using those services - and something you should be aware of.

Certainly, more telemetry could be tracked: which questions or question categories users answer, file uploading frequency, etc. However, Ankh does not track these events in an effort to maximize your privacy.

If Ankh Inc.’s efforts to not store your data and to minimize telemetry are unsatisfactory, please don’t use the Ankh application.

1. What We (Don’t) Store

  • Your answers, recordings, uploaded files, and other content (“User Content”) stay on your device only.

  • Ankh does not copy, transmit, or store your User Content on our servers or the servers of any third party.

  • If you choose to export your data, it is still in your control: you may store the export on your device or transmit it from your device elsewhere. Ankh Inc. does not provide a service to receive your export data.

2. What We Track

To keep the app working and to improve how people find and use it, we collect telemetry and analytics:

  • App usage events (e.g. first open, session start/end, key introduction events, uninstall).

  • Basic device and app info (e.g. model, OS version, carrier, app version, language, time zone).

  • Coarse location (inferred from IP address, such as city or region).

  • Advertising identifiers (GAID on Android, IDFA on iOS if you allow it).

  • Attribution data (which ads led to an install or conversion).

This telemetry information consists of device identifiers, advertising identifiers (such as GAID or IDFA, if you allow them), basic device details, crash logs, performance data, and high-level usage data. While it does not directly identify you, some privacy laws and app stores treat this kind of data (including pseudonymous identifiers) as “personal information.”

We do not collect or process sensitive personal data (such as health information, biometric data, financial information, or precise geolocation).

3. App Usage Events Specifics

For transparency, we want you to know the kinds of telemetry events we track:

  • Intro steps (whether the user has reached certain major questions or made key interactions such as Shredcryption in the App’s onboarding / tutorial)

  • Landing screen interactions (which choices on the “landing screen” are pressed - the screen typically seen by onboarded users after app restart)

  • Misc. key interactions (events tracking the Join Discord press, survey button press, and similar interactions - ones that are mundane from a privacy perspective)

Because Ankh is in active development, the exact set of events changes over time. We commit to keeping this tracking minimal and focused on broad app navigation.

4. Third-Party Telemetry SDKs

We use third-party software development kits (SDKs) for telemetry (analytics and advertising attribution and optimization):

  • Google Firebase (analytics, crash reporting, performance metrics)

  • Meta (Facebook) (advertising attribution and optimization)

These providers may collect identifiers, device details, network info (including IP address), and usage data as described above. They process data under their own privacy policies:

5. How We Use This Data

  • To measure and improve how new users experience the app.

  • To optimize online ads, to acquire new users cost-efficiently.

  • To understand user activity (in aggregate: number of active users, number of sessions; not per individual).

  • To fix crashes and improve performance.

We don’t sell your data.

6. Communications Data

If you communicate with us, we collect the name you provide, contact information, and the contents of any messages you send.

From time to time, we may also invite you to participate in surveys (for example, via Typeform or similar services). If you choose to respond, your answers are collected and processed by the survey provider on our behalf. We treat survey responses as communications data: they are used to help us improve Ankh, and they are not linked to your in-app User Content.

7. Data Retention

  • Since we don’t store your User Content, we cannot delete it for you. It exists only on your device (or where you export it) - you must delete it yourself.

  • Analytics and advertising providers may retain telemetry indefinitely.

  • If you want Ankh Inc. to attempt to delete your data from third party analytics and advertising providers, please reach out at support@getankh.com - we will communicate any applicable deletion options and next steps to the best of our ability.

  • Please reach out to support@getankh.com for deletion of communications data with us, such as emails, surveys, and related contact information.

8. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have legal rights in relation to your data, such as rights of access, correction, deletion, objection, or restriction. Because Ankh does not store your answers or other User Content, these rights apply only to telemetry and analytics data processed by us or our third-party providers.

Telemetry data is generally tied to pseudonymous identifiers (such as device IDs or advertising IDs). This means we cannot usually identify, access, or correct data about you on an individual basis. Where our providers support deletion or opt-out mechanisms, we will make reasonable efforts to pass your request along. In many cases, the most effective way to exercise your rights is through your device or operating system settings (for example, resetting your advertising ID, or limiting ad tracking).

In relation to telemetry tracking: on iOS, we honor Apple’s App Tracking Transparency setting; on Android, we honor your GAID/Ad Personalization setting.

If you contact us at support@getankh.com, we will explain what options are available and assist or help direct you to any relevant provider tools.

If you live in certain U.S. states, you may have additional rights under local privacy laws. Please see the Additional U.S. State Disclosures section of this Privacy Policy for more information.

9. Security

Your User Content is only as secure as your device.

  • Use the passcode, backup, or encryption features provided by your device.

  • Adhere to security best practices, for example: don’t leave your device unattended, don’t share your credentials, and don’t use a device that may be compromised.

  • Exported files are not encrypted by Ankh and are your responsibility.

  • Telemetry data sent to our analytics and advertising providers is transmitted over standard encrypted connections (TLS/SSL).

10. Business Transfers

If Ankh Inc. is involved in a merger, acquisition, reorganization, sale of assets, or similar transaction, telemetry data and communications data we process may be transferred as part of that transaction. Any successor entity will remain bound by this Privacy Policy, unless and until you accept a new privacy policy.

11. Children & Age Restrictions

You must be at least 18 years of age (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction, if higher) and legally capable of entering into binding contracts to use the app and services (see our Terms of Service for details).

For additional emphasis: the app and services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has used Ankh, please contact support@getankh.com and we will take steps to delete applicable telemetry and communications data we control, and request deletion from our analytics/attribution vendors where feasible. Because Ankh does not store User Content on its servers, we cannot delete content from a device or from destinations to which a user exported it.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “last updated” information as well.

13. Relationship to Terms of Service

As noted in the Terms of Service, if there is any conflict or inconsistency between the Terms of Service and this Privacy Policy, the Privacy Policy will govern with respect to the collection, use, and processing of personal data.

14. Website and Cookies

The Ankh website (hosted on Wix) uses cookies and similar technologies for basic functionality, performance, and security. Cookies are small text files placed on your device that allow the site to work properly and help us understand general usage.

We do not use the website to serve targeted advertising. However, Wix and its service providers may use cookies or similar technologies for purposes such as load balancing, fraud prevention, and aggregated analytics. Please see the Wix Privacy Policy for more information on their practices.

You can manage or delete cookies through your browser settings.

15. Additional U.S. State Disclosures

Certain U.S. state privacy laws (such as those in California, Virginia, Colorado, and others) require additional disclosures. This section provides those disclosures.

15.1 Categories of Personal Data Collected

In the past 12 months, we have collected the following categories of personal data:

  • Identifiers: device identifiers, advertising identifiers (GAID/IDFA if enabled), IP address.

  • Internet or Network Activity Information: app usage events (first open, session start/end, basic navigation events), crash logs, performance metrics.

  • Geolocation Data: coarse location inferred from IP address (city or region).

  • Commercial/Transactional Data: attribution data (which ad campaigns led to install or conversion).

We do not collect your name, email, contact information, payment information, or the answers and content you store in Ankh.

15.2 Purposes of Use

We use the categories of data listed above to:

  • Maintain and improve the app;

  • Fix crashes and monitor performance;

  • Measure and optimize advertising campaigns;

  • Understand app adoption and usage in aggregate.

15.3 Disclosures of Personal Data

We disclose these categories of data to:

  • Vendors and service providers that supply analytics, crash reporting, and advertising attribution services (including Google Firebase and Meta);

  • Successor entities in the event of a merger, acquisition, or similar transaction;

  • Government authorities or others where required by law.

15.4 Sales / Sharing

We do not “sell” personal data. However, our use of third-party SDKs for advertising attribution may be considered a “share” under some state laws, because advertising identifiers and conversion events are processed by third parties.

15.5 Sensitive Personal Data

We do not collect sensitive personal data (such as health, biometric, or precise geolocation data).

15.6 Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Know the categories and specific pieces of personal data we collect;

  • Request deletion of personal data;

  • Request correction of inaccurate personal data;

  • Opt out of the “sharing” of personal data for advertising purposes;

  • Not be discriminated against for exercising your privacy rights.

15.7 How to Exercise Your Rights

Because we do not store your User Content, these rights apply only to telemetry and communications data. In many cases, the most effective way to limit or delete telemetry data is through your device settings (for example, resetting your advertising ID, limiting ad tracking, or adjusting app permissions).

You may also contact us at support@getankh.com to request that we forward a deletion or opt-out request to our analytics and advertising providers. We cannot guarantee deletion across all third-party systems, but we will assist you to the extent possible.

Please reach out to support@getankh.com for deletion of communications data with us, such as emails, surveys, and related contact information.

15.8 Verification and Authorized Agents

To protect your privacy, we may ask you to verify your request. If you use an authorized agent, we may require written permission and independent verification.

15.9 Appeals

If we decline your request, you may have the right to appeal. You can do so by emailing support@getankh.com.
